Why must it break the heart in two?

Why does this love feel far too strong?

It haunts my soul, it takes my breath,
Why is it real, as real as death?

I cannot keep this pain inside,
Where all my tangled shadows hide.

My heart is beating one dark lane,
While intellect fights back the pain.
Deep down within the silent night,
My mind and soul continue to fight.

I want this love to fly out free,
But heavy chains are holding me.
